Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) modules are external chips that transform digital numbers from a microcontroller into a smooth, continuous analog voltage signal.
While microcontrollers easily read analog inputs using an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), most struggle to generate a clean analog output. They typically rely on Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), which mimics analog by rapidly toggling a digital pin on and off. Dedicated DAC modules are required for applications needing an exact, steady voltage (such as audio generation, power supply biasing, or industrial motor controls).
